Everything You Thought Was Real in The Great Gatsby Was Visual Effects

At this point even the most gullible of filmgoers must realize that nearly every movie has been digitally enhanced in one way or another. Long gone are the days when talented VFX artists were only called on to bring spaceships and dinosaurs to life; these days directors like Baz Luhrmann spend millions on effects to simply help bring even a few lamp posts to life.

The Great Gatsby's VFX Supervisor Chris Godfrey posted this collection of awesome before and after shots completed by FX shop Animal Logic, showing how Luhrmann used extensive digital techniques to create camera moves and locations that would have otherwise been incredibly challenging and expensive through traditional filmmaking techniques. And even though The Great Gatsby is far from what one would consider a Hollywood blockbuster, the film still contained almost 1,500 digitally manipulated shots. [Vimeo via Taxi]
