Flossie: Tropical storm warning in parts of Hawaii

(AP) ? Miami-based forecasters say Tropical Storm Flossie is moving westward across the central Pacific toward Hawaii, where a tropical storm warning has been issued for Hawaii and Maui counties.

The National Weather Service in Miami said Flossie has maximum sustained winds near 60 mph (95 kph) and is centered about 645 miles (1,040 kilometers) east of Hilo, Hawaii. It is moving westward at about 20 mph (32 kph) and gradual weakening is forecast on its approach to the islands.

The Miami forecasters said in an advisory issued at 11 p.m. Hawaiian time Saturday that a tropical storm watch has been issued for Oahu.

The advisory adds Flossie's center is expected to pass near or close to the Big Island and Maui on Monday and then south of Oahu sometime Monday night.
