Tax, Finance, CE, CPE, EA, CPA, CFP Blog: Online CPA Course ...

Several research studies have provided evidence that students learn equally well with online courses as they do in classroom settings. Those findings compared college courses. But, in cases of professional exam training, surveys indicate that live classes are especially overrated. Reports from CPA exam candidates are that in-class teachers contribute little or no value. Consequently, online CPA review seems like the superior choice for achieving passing exam scores. Many of the classroom arrangements for the CPA exam are reportedly recorded presentations, with a live instructor performing little more than turning on and off a DVD player. However, some classes do involve lecturers, who might even possess accounting experience but little teacher training. Their contributions consist primarily of reading from a course book and informing students what to highlight. Auditory learning certainly has a purpose, but a boring classroom is never conducive to retaining information. Remembering CPA exam material using speech is possible in several ways. For example, auditory learners should repeat summaries of study sections aloud. Some students record their own mini lectures into a digital recorder and listen to themselves while exercising or commuting. Live courses are usually given in the evenings or on weekends. That is a convenience to students, but certainly not as convenient as an anytime online CPA course. Research on learning patterns reveals that self-paced online students cover material faster than classroom students. So, rather than cram with an 8-hour Saturday classroom course, more ground is covered online over the same period. A possible reason for the improved pace of online learning is that a web-based study bank of sample CPA exam questions provides instant response. Students immediately know if they answered correctly. Plus, the grading of responses provides references to textbook resources, including hyperlinks to electronic text sources. The most technologically advanced online courses provide hot buttons for obtaining additional explanations of problem questions. Students can also ask for help from a person. An online learning experience doesn’t leave CPA candidates stuck having to study without assistance. In fact, seeking individual interaction via an online help request results in response from an expert. That’s a far better alternative than attempting to pause a lecturer who’s telling you what to highlight in a textbook. He probably can’t quickly identify a reference back to an earlier section of text or authoritative literature. Another important feedback mechanism of online CPA exam courses is real time reporting and analysis of educational progress. As questions are answered, students know how they performed and whether their scores are improving. These tools also deliver reminders about weak areas that call for further review and repeated question drills.
