OVERLAND PARK, Kan. ? More women with breast cancer are choosing to have mastectomies, and they are often double mastectomies.
A survey by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons finds most women are unaware of all their options for reconstructing the breasts.
The society is sponsoring the first-ever BRA DAY USA (BRA is short for breast reconstruction awareness) on October 17 to increase awareness of the options, which include implants, using the patient?s own tissue taken from elsewhere in the body or a combination of those.
FOX 4 Medical Reporter Meryl Lin McKean spoke with one woman who says it?s possible to look and feel whole again following a double mastectomy. Watch the video to see her story.
