View all articles by Mark Paul Many companies are now investing in backup technology due to the dangers and imminent threats that their software, databases and systems are prone to. Backup technology could save companies from the loss of a lot of information. Those who have not protected themselves by investing in this technology are likely to lose quite a lot and it would be very difficult to get it back. In addition to this research and development costs could be very high and so, doing all of this all over again would mean losing funds on researching information all over again which would be a waste of a lot funds.
Backup technology devices come in various forms- USBs, DDS tapes, LTO tapes and floppies were once amongst these, too. The best part about these devices is that they are compact, light, cheap and affordable by all businesses. They can also be carried everywhere and so, employees or employers going to other locations, countries or cities for a meeting can carry these devices easily. The devices can also be hidden away or kept at home by employers who fear the possible loss of information stored on these devices or those who fear that these devices may be stolen.
?A number of companies are involved in the production of such devices and Sony is one of these. The Sony AIT 5 tape is one such device. The tape has a large storage capacity. Large scale digital information can be stored on to the tape as well. It has a storage capacity of 400 GB of native capacity and 1040 GB of compressed data. This would allow companies to store a whole lot of information on to these tapes and save such information for retrieval when and if disaster strikes. Research and development companies would benefit from such technology.
The Helical Scan technology ensures a fast data transfer rate of 24 MB per second. It also has a long archival life of 30 years which means any information can be archived on to it for a long time. The Sony AIT 5 tape has backward compatibility with the AIT-3, AIT-3Ex, AIT-4 and so any information on these can be saved, stored and overwritten which would reduce the need for additional tapes and tapes of the previous generations would not be required in order to store important information considering the doubled capacity. ? The tapes come with WORM (Write Once, Read Many) capabilities which mean that information stored on these tapes would be protected from erasure and the files would be protected from alteration. So no one can make changes to any information stored on to the tape because the data is well-protected and secure. All in all, the Sony AIT 5 backup tape would be the ideal investment for businesses wanting to protect themselves, in the long run. These are available at low costs and any and every business can afford these tapes and with features mentioned above there is no reason not to go for the AIT 5.
AIT 5 media tapes are
very robust, reliable and cost efficient. High performance SDLT tapes, LTO
tapes, DDS tapes, AIT tapes, RDX cartridges and Sony TAIT2-80N, AIT 2 turbo
tapes are available at Odsi.co.uk, at low price. Mark Paul Online Digital

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)? The new St. Louis city police chief says he?s in favor of much stronger gun control laws.
St. Louis County Police Chief Tim Fitch has said he favors armed guards and guns in schools after the Connecticut school massacre.?
But Chief Sam Dotson, who took over the police chief?s job in the city Tuesday, is in favor of much tougher gun laws.
?More guns is never the answer. We have to find ways to take guns off of the street. There?s no room in society for assault rifles. There?s no room in society for high-capacity magazines. I understand the second amendment issues, but we have to find ways to get guns off of the streets and out of the hands of criminals,? said Chief Dotson.
Chief Dotson also says he favors a civilian review board, where a panel of civilians could review and question police disciplinary decisions.
As I was blogging about Ritu Nanda?sNew Year?s Eve party it occurred to me that a family flow chart might help clarify this complicated lineage! I?m guessing you knew most of these connections but I found a few particularly intriguing. Like for instance I didn?t ?realise Shweta Bachchan Nanda?was connected to the Kapoor family by marriage. Especially since the massive fallout between the Kapoor and Bachchan?s over Karisma Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan?s broken engagement must have made extended Kapoor family?occasions?a little weird, no?
Amazing how much Karisma resembles her mom Babita Kapoor,?especially that smile!?I also noticed that Samaira Kapoor has light eyes! Are we thinking next generation Bollywood perhaps? Aadar & Armaan Kapoor are growing up fast and I?m guessing the Kapoor clan will continue it?s filmy pursuits for generations to come.
PS. Raj Kapoor?s two brothers Shammi Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor were also big in Bollywood, I thought Rajiv Kapoor (Raj?s youngest son) looked so much like Sammi that I initially had them confused until I realised this was good ol Chimpoo! *lol*
Cute how Riddhima Sahni and Karisma Kapoor named their daughters Samara and Samiara isn?t it? I wonder if that was planned?
Any other interesting observations that come to mind? Leave me a comment below!
Psst! There?s more on the family tree extensions here on Wikipedia.

CHARLESTON, South Carolina (Reuters) - Congregants at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church cried out in testimony, prayer and song at a New Year's Eve service recalling the vigils held by blacks 150 years ago as they awaited President Abraham Lincoln's signing of the Emancipation Proclamation.
The document that helped end slavery in the United States resonated deeply in Charleston, where thousands of enslaved Africans arrived in America from the late 17th century to the early 19th century. The first shots of the Civil War also were fired in Charleston in 1861.
"It's not just an African-American celebration, it's an American celebration, akin to the Fourth of July," Reverend Clementa Pinckney said to 100 congregants at the two-hour service, known as Watch Night. "It's freedom come full circle."
As he read aloud excerpts from the proclamation, he told the congregation, "We stand on the shoulders of abolitionists and missionaries."
The lights inside the 194-year-old church were turned off shortly before midnight. In the dark, a succession of singers in a minute-by-minute countdown to the new year called, "Watchman, watchman, please tell me the hour of the night."
The minister's response pierced the darkness. "It is three minutes to midnight," then "It is two minutes to the new year," then "Last chance to pray in 2012." Finally, "It is now the new year. Freedom has come."
Watch Night, a historical New Year's Eve tradition of reflection and prayer in some American Protestant churches, became a tradition in African-American churches starting in 1862.
That night, on "Freedom's Eve," black churches and abolitionist communities waited for what 19th-century abolitionist leader Frederick Douglass wrote was "the glorious morning of liberty about to dawn upon us."
The proclamation, which Lincoln issued on January 1, 1863, in the middle of the Civil War, formally declared free millions of slaves in rebellious states that had left the United States and were not occupied by federal troops. It also allowed black men who had been enslaved to join the Union Army and Navy.
Though slavery was not fully abolished until the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was ratified in 1865, Watch Night was "a celebration of what freedom might mean," said Dawn Chitty, education director of the African American Civil War Museum in Washington, D.C., which focuses on the history and contributions of the United States Colored Troops.
"It wasn't just about being free to walk away from chains and shackles and forced labor, but about having a chance to fight for a country that didn't uphold any rights that you had at the time," she said.
Historians and scholars agree that slaves in the South were aware of the coming proclamation, which had been published months before it was signed.
"Groups of people gathered together with song, prayer, programs, whatever they could do, to recognize what was coming at midnight," Chitty said.
A few years later in 1868, Charleston blacks began holding an annual Emancipation Day parade, a tradition that they planned to repeat on Tuesday with floats, marching bands and community organizations taking part.
The parade was among a number of events being held across the country to mark the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation. A three-day display of the fragile original document was due to end on Tuesday at the National Archives in Washington.

As I look back on 2012, a number of products stand out as memorable. I figured I'd use my last column of the year to take a moment to recall each one and what made it special. For years I wondered why someone didn't use the technology that was used to cool astronauts and race drivers in consumer clothing and beds. This is important to me.
