View all articles by Mark Paul Many companies are now investing in backup technology due to the dangers and imminent threats that their software, databases and systems are prone to. Backup technology could save companies from the loss of a lot of information. Those who have not protected themselves by investing in this technology are likely to lose quite a lot and it would be very difficult to get it back. In addition to this research and development costs could be very high and so, doing all of this all over again would mean losing funds on researching information all over again which would be a waste of a lot funds.

Backup technology devices come in various forms- USBs, DDS tapes, LTO tapes and floppies were once amongst these, too. The best part about these devices is that they are compact, light, cheap and affordable by all businesses. They can also be carried everywhere and so, employees or employers going to other locations, countries or cities for a meeting can carry these devices easily. The devices can also be hidden away or kept at home by employers who fear the possible loss of information stored on these devices or those who fear that these devices may be stolen.

?A number of companies are involved in the production of such devices and Sony is one of these. The Sony AIT 5 tape is one such device. The tape has a large storage capacity. Large scale digital information can be stored on to the tape as well. It has a storage capacity of 400 GB of native capacity and 1040 GB of compressed data. This would allow companies to store a whole lot of information on to these tapes and save such information for retrieval when and if disaster strikes. Research and development companies would benefit from such technology.

The Helical Scan technology ensures a fast data transfer rate of 24 MB per second. It also has a long archival life of 30 years which means any information can be archived on to it for a long time. The Sony AIT 5 tape has backward compatibility with the AIT-3, AIT-3Ex, AIT-4 and so any information on these can be saved, stored and overwritten which would reduce the need for additional tapes and tapes of the previous generations would not be required in order to store important information considering the doubled capacity.
?
The tapes come with WORM (Write Once, Read Many) capabilities which mean that information stored on these tapes would be protected from erasure and the files would be protected from alteration. So no one can make changes to any information stored on to the tape because the data is well-protected and secure. All in all, the Sony AIT 5 backup tape would be the ideal investment for businesses wanting to protect themselves, in the long run. These are available at low costs and any and every business can afford these tapes and with features mentioned above there is no reason not to go for the AIT 5.

AIT 5 media tapes are very robust, reliable and cost efficient. High performance SDLT tapes, LTO tapes, DDS tapes, AIT tapes, RDX cartridges and Sony TAIT2-80N, AIT 2 turbo tapes are available at Odsi.co.uk, at low price.
